March 22, 2010 – New York – AETN International, a division of A&E Television Networks, has reached an agreement with Samsung to provide a HISTORY™ branded This Day in History® widget on all television sets, Blu-ray Disc players and mobile devices outside the US enabled with the Samsung Widget Engine.
Scheduled to launch in March, the This Day in History widget channel will be available on Samsung television sets in over 80 countries in Europe and Asia, while the Blu-ray Disc player will be offered in 26 countries throughout Europe. Samsung’s mobile widget service will be available in approximately 80 countries outside the US.
“We are thrilled to be working with Samsung to offer consumers in Europe and Asia our This Day in History widget. Through this partnership we are able to enrich the customer experience by offering relevant and innovative content that complements our brands and programs, and we can reach many more eyeballs around the world,” said Fabienne Fourquet, Sr. Director, International Digital Media, A&E Television Networks.
Fourquet continued, “This Day in History has proven to be one of the most popular and flexible content features from HISTORY. The widget offers entertaining and informative daily bites of history for consumers to snack on and I think Samsung’s TV, Blu-ray Disc players and mobile phones are the perfect outlets for this content.”
The This Day in History widget will be available on the Samsung widget dock in My Application on the home page, and the content will be refreshed daily. This Day in History is a popular feature created for HISTORY’s consumer website, History.com. Daily articles are published highlighting events from history that occurred that day across a variety of genres, including General Interest, Civil War, Sports, Automotive, Literary, Crime and more. AETN International has created an International History category which will be used on the Samsung widget docks.
